Nature's Symphony
April 2024
We have reached a milestone in our work to raise awareness about PTSD and assistance dogs. About two years ago, we had an unpleasant shopping experience in our town at a supermarket belonging to a large four-letter chain.
My husband took Max, his assistance dog (in training), into the store, and a little later we found ourselves in an unpleasant discussion about whether Max was allowed in the store or not.
He had to explain to a rather long queue why he had Max, and he did so in a state of maximum arousal.
This very borderline incident set my husband back by weeks, with the consequence that for the past two years I have done almost all the shopping, big and small, on my own.
My husband filed a complaint with the supermarket chain at the time and gave an interview to our local newspaper about this problem.
After this report was published, a reader contacted us wanting to help. He then contacted @Pfotenpiloten and @netto to bring this problem to light and find a solution.
That's why we had an appointment at @netto, which was the first supermarket in our town to readily agree to display a clearly recognizable "Assistance dogs welcome" sign.
We sincerely thank our helper, who wishes to remain anonymous, @pfotenpiloten and @netto for this touching support. And thank you to Ms. Beimdiek from @IVZ for the excellent coverage.
This milestone is significant. For us, it means quality of life, recognition, inclusion, and living everyday life with PTSD.

Empathetic. Authentic. Encouraging.
The Ibbenbüren Volkszeitung has reported on
ATEK eV – reports.
In an interview with Anke Beimdiek, I speak openly about life alongside a soldier injured in action, the challenges of everyday life with PTSD, and the creation of the guide "EMMA" – a guide that helps relatives to better understand, support, and remain strong themselves.
The article shows how personal suffering gave rise to a project of hope and mutual help – driven by experience, empathy and the firm will to encourage other families.
