After many unpleasant experiences while taking our assistance dog Max (in training) with us while shopping, my husband decided to make this problem public.

We've reached a milestone in our work to raise awareness about PTSD and assistance dogs. A good two years ago, we had an unpleasant shopping experience in our local supermarket, a large four-letter chain.

My husband took Max with him to the store as his assistance dog (in training) and a short time later we found ourselves in an unpleasant discussion about whether Max was allowed into the store or not.

He had to explain to a rather long queue why he had Max, and he did so in a state of maximum excitement.

This very extreme event set my husband back weeks, with the consequence that for a good two years I have done almost all of my small and large shopping trips on my own.

At the time, my husband filed a complaint with the supermarket chain and gave an interview to our local newspaper about this problem.

After this report was published, a reader contacted us, eager to help. He contacted @Pfotenpiloten and @netto to highlight this injustice and ensure its remedy.

That's why we had an appointment with @netto, which was the first supermarket in our town to willingly agree to put up a clearly visible "Assistance dogs welcome" sign.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our helper, who wishes to remain anonymous, the @pfotenpiloten, and @netto for their touching support. And to Ms. Beimdiek from the @IVZ for the fantastic coverage.

This milestone is momentous. For us, it means quality of life, recognition, inclusion, and everyday life with PTSD.
