My name is Sandra Thamm. I am 47 years old, mother of a patchwork family and wife of a combat veteran.
My husband has suffered complex PTSD as a result of his numerous deployments, which presents us with many challenges in our everyday lives.
In October 2022, I started writing about my daily struggle with PTSD in the form of my profile on Instagram #wifeofadeployedveteran.
The search for like-minded people quickly showed me that there is no help whatsoever in this area.
No constant help from the Bundeswehr, no help for relatives in a therapeutic sense and no information whatsoever about what it is like in everyday life to live with a deployed veteran who suffers from PTSD.
However, the many positive responses quickly made it clear to me that there is a great need for help and education.
So I decided to set up an online support group for relatives of veterans/emergency personnel. To offer an exchange on an equal footing with relatives who are all in the same boat.
In order to put the project Wife of a Veteran and the online support group on a solid foundation, I trained to become a certified psychological first aider. (See slideshow for certificate)
My intention is to help, to support and to let every relative know that they are not alone.
This homepage is intended to provide information and assistance to help veterans/emergency personnel better deal with PTSD in everyday life.
The target group of the project are wives, husbands, relatives, sons and daughters, partners, friends and acquaintances who support traumatized veterans and emergency personnel, whether military, THW, police or rescue services, on a daily basis and share the burden.
Let's talk!
Best regards
Your Sandra
