GOOD FRIDAY BATTLE
The Good Friday Battle was a firefight on April 2, 2010, as part of the Bundeswehr's deployment in Afghanistan between a paratrooper unit and radical Islamic Taliban. They were supported by the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Three paratroopers were killed in this battle. The Good Friday Battle was the first time since the Second World War that German soldiers were involved in prolonged combat operations and suffered losses themselves.
Sergeant Major Nils Bruns (35 years old), Lance Corporal Robert Hartert (25 years old) and Lance Corporal Martin Augustyniak (28 years old), all from Paratrooper Battalion 373, were killed in the Good Friday battle. Eight other soldiers were seriously wounded

A memorial march, initiated by Pierre Lindholm (NATOVET), commemorates the Good Friday battle of April 2, 2010 and the fallen soldiers. Today, well over 10,000 soldiers, veterans and civilians take part in the marches.
