The Good Friday Battle.

The Good Friday Battle was a firefight on April 2, 2010, during the Bundeswehr's deployment in Afghanistan between a paratrooper unit and radical Islamic Taliban forces. The Taliban were supported by the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Three paratroopers were killed in this battle. The Good Friday Battle marked the first time German soldiers participated in sustained combat operations since World War II, resulting in losses.

Sergeant Major Nils Bruns (35 years old), Staff Sergeant Robert Hartert (25 years old), and Corporal Martin Augustyniak (28 years old), all of Paratrooper Battalion 373, were killed in action on Good Friday. Eight other soldiers were seriously wounded.

A memorial march, initiated by Bundeswehr veteran Pierre Lindholm (NATOVET), commemorates the Good Friday battle of April 2, 2010, and the fallen soldiers. Today, well over 10,000 soldiers, veterans, and civilians participate in the marches.

Like last year, we ran around Lake Aasee in Ibbenbüren this year. It was a very flat course, well-suited for participants with disabilities.

We thank everyone who was there again!
